RE

“Religious Education helps young people develop beliefs and values, and promotes the virtues of respect and empathy, which are important in our diverse society.”

OFSTED. Religious education: Realising the potential (2013)

RE Lead: Mr Campion & Mrs Reay
Subject Intent:

RE is taught in every year group using the year groups Long Terms Plans. The plans have been developed by the subject lead in line with the agreed syllabus for Religious Education in Northamptonshire to ensure coverage of different faiths and to build on previous knowledge ensuring progression through the school. RE is split into two key areas: learning about religion and learning from religion. Our curriculum is developed from the Discovery RE Scheme of work alongside the SACRE agreed syllabus for Northamptonshire to ensure children acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the other principal religions represented in the United Kingdom.

The Subject Leader works alongside teaching staff to develop confidence and offer inspiration and ideas on building learning journeys and promoting exposure to different learning experiences across the faiths.

Subject Implementation:

RE is taught in every year group using the year groups Long Terms Plans. A variety of teaching strategies are used which are mindful of each child’s preferred learning style. The Long Term Plan is designed so that each year group focuses on a different faith, having the opportunity to have an in depth exploration of the beliefs and practices. Christianity is taught in each year group across the school.

The Subject Leader works alongside teaching staff to develop confidence and offer inspiration and ideas on building learning journeys and promoting exposure to different learning experiences across the faiths.

It is continuously developed and adapted to suit the needs of our pupils, so all pupils, including our SEND and those in vulnerable groups, from EYFS to Year 6 experience quality RE education.

Our pupils are encouraged to value their own opinions, whilst developing respect and sensitivity for the views of others. Pupils are encouraged to understand the importance of the role that each individual has to play in the life of the school and of the wider community.

Wherever possible, we try to ensure that we invite visitors from different Faith Communities and cultural backgrounds and organise visits to places of worship both within the immediate community and the wider community. This helps to develop community cohesion through Religious Education.

Subject Impact:

By the time pupils leave Green Oaks, they will:

  •  have developed their wider subject knowledge of faiths
  •  be developing a sense of their own beliefs and values
  • show respect and empathy for the views and beliefs of others.
